Students

Grounded Student Ministry

To coincide with our church’s overarching vision of Rooted, Reaching and Replicating, we love the idea that teenagers are “grounded.” We want this to be the hope of our teenagers: that they “be rooted and grounded in Christ’s love… and they may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17). We want students to become mature disciples of Christ whose faith takes root in their teen years.

Our Student Ministry Approach

Sunday School

Our Sunday School groups are structured to help students learn how to study the Bible themselves. Every week, they will break out into table groups and ask targeted questions about the passage of Scripture we are covering that day, learning how to think through things like context, big ideas in the text, patterns of Scripture, etc. Students will then come together as a group to close out with some teaching over the high points. We are working through the back half of the Old Testament this year!

Wednesday Nights

Our focus on Wednesday nights this year is on doctrine that leads to worship: what are the core doctrines of our faith, and how do they lead us to a life of worship and devotion to Christ? We want to equip students to understand the foundational beliefs of Christianity not only for the sake of knowledge, but that those truths would become catalysts of worship that would shape their lives outside the walls of the church building.

Our time begins with worship through music, followed by large group teaching over various topics, and ends with small group discussions about how the teaching applies in their lives today.

It’s a more relaxed atmosphere, because we want students to feel comfortable not just to bring hard questions and wrestle with them, but to develop deep relationships with students and leaders, learning and growing together as they take steps forward in their personal walk with Christ. It also provides students the opportunity to serve in our praise team, tech team, or welcome team.

Other Events

Although our weekly meetings are the primary focus, we also want to plan events that help to supplement the kinds of relationships and practices that we hope to see in our students. This includes summer camp, retreats, DNOW weekends, or just normal hang-outs around Covington.

Gatherings:

Sunday School — 9:45am
The Annex/Student and Activities Center

Wednesday Nights — 6:00-7:30pm
The Annex/Student and Activities Center
A typical Wednesday night usually includes: hang-out time beforehand, a group game, and worshipping Jesus through: a) music, b) a large group teaching time, and c) small groups. We aim for a fun, engaging, and Christ-centered atmosphere!
